Starting your first blog might seem scary if you don’t consider yourself a “techie”. All the talk of coding, HTML, CSS, databases, etc. can be a bit much. No need to fret though. The current crop of blogging software (or CMSs – content management systems) is designed to appeal to both newbies and experienced users alike.
There are several different options to choose from, but by far the most popular is WordPress, which is what I use for this blog.
But let’s start at the beginning: What is a personal blog useful for? In short, it can be used for a variety of purposes, whether personal or business. A blog is a place to speak directly to your readers. You can develop a personal connection with each and every one of them if your blog is written well.
This level of intimacy is particularly useful in business, where it is often difficult to really connect with potential customers in a personal way without seeming disingenuous. A blog is the perfect place to show a little personality and let customers get to know a little bit about the people behind the business while writing in a more informal style.
